During peacetime the military is a job. It's not 'service' - it's a friggin job. People in the military are paid, given housing, clothing, medical care, and fed, using our tax dollars. And in peacetime they don't go to war.
So why is it the military boards planes first, even in peacetime. Why is it people in media crawl all over themselves to be sure to say loud and proud, thank you for your service, first chance they get.
Because we are a war loving, misogynistic, nationalistic society - that's why. If we weren't nurses would be the ones boarding planes first and we would be thanking THEM for their service.
