'Defense' spending in this country approaches nearly 1 trillion dollars a year.
This despite we not having had to defend this country since WWII.
We have not declared war since WWII - something we would have done if what we do with our military was truly defensive.
We are now involved in three 'wars'. None of them declared. Three wars.
The latest so typically draped in 'humanitarianism' and the flag.
Never mind that Libya's oil reserves are the largest in Africa and the ninth largest in the world.
We are humanitarians.

Tell that to Rwanda.
If President Obama wants yet another war let him tells us ALL the reasons why. Let him be honest.
I would prefer we just come home.
It's time to address our needs, our recession, our public education in crisis, our infrastructure - crumbling, our joblessness, our poverty, our hunger, our suffering.

the whole "they just want to oil" seems way to easy. i very much doubt that there was any other motivation in this than preventing a disaster. it also seems contradictory to say that the wars are so expensive on the one hand and on the other hand the americans just want the oil. It seems very unlikely that obama is being paid or controlled by the oil industry or anything similar, so that the costs for the war are being paid by the taxpayers and the money made by the oil stays with the industry...iraq and lybia are not comparable.
ReplyDeleteHere's a partial answer to this comment:
ReplyDeleteWar is not expensive - not to those that put it into motion anyway. It doesn't 'cost' the government and those that govern a thing - quite the contrary - it consolidates and heightens power and control. And it certainly doesn't cost those that profit from it anything. Indeed war has become the means for the greatest transfer of wealth from the masses to the very, very few in all of recorded history. 1.2 trillion dollars and counting in just the last ten years. And 'Americans' don't want the oil. The oil companies and the government want the oil. One for profit the other becuase without it our entire way of life grinds to a halt. Obama needn't be paid or even controlled by the oil companies to realize that. But do not underestimate the power of the military industrial complex and the far reaching consequences of going against it or big oil.
We are not in Libya because we are good guys. We didnt invade Iraq out of legitimate concerns for our safety.
And we do not persist in Afghanistan long after destroying Al Queda there to fight terrorism.
So why are we there?
